Men: Let’s Get You Checked Out! Men, are you listening? It is your time to take care of your body and know what you can do to stick around! Although men of all ages should have routine checkups with their physicians, many men wait to seek routine care until they are in their 40s. While there may be many individual reasons for this, men are generally reluctant to see physicians routinely. Heart disease, cancer, and accidental deaths are the three leading causes of death among men in the United States. However, many of the top 10 causes of death and disability can be prevented or delayed with early diagnosis and treatment. By establishing relationships with family physicians now, signs and symptoms of conditions can be managed as they occur. A guide, “Get it Checked,” outlines 15 different tests and screenings for men. The guide, provided by a non-profit educational organization in Washington, DC, lets men know when to get each test and is available on www.menshealthnetwork.org.
